Health IT Groups Cautiously Praise Stage Meaningful Use Delay

Information technology groups offered cautious praise to the CMS for extending Stage 2 of the electronic health record incentive payment program to three years and pushing back the start of Stage 3 until at least 2017. But they also asked for increased flexibility for healthcare providers.

Healthcare Leaders React To ONC’s New Chief Appointment

HHS appointed a new chief to head the Office of the National Coordinator on Thursday, and so far the decision has been lauded by industry leaders. Karen DeSalvo, MD, current health commissioner of New Orleans, will be taking the ONC reins Jan. 13, replacing acting national coordinator Jacob Reider. She is the first woman to serve in this role.

CMS, ONC Extend Meaningful Use

A joint CMS and ONC blog post today divulges the government’s intentions to extend the timeline for meaningful use Stages 2 and 3. “Under the revised schedule, Stage 2 would be extended through 2016 and Stage 3 would begin in 2017 for those providers that have completed at least two years in Stage 2,” explained acting national coordinator Jacob Reider, MD, and Rod Tagalicod, director of the CMS office of health standards and services.
